Physicochemical variations in DOM-synchronous fluorescence: Implications for mixing studies

چکیده
Synchronous fluorescence (SF) spectra of dissolved organic matter (DOp/I) show promise for mixing studies and can resolve multiple river inputs to large water masses in a single fast measurement. This study examines the effects of physicochemical variables on DOM SF independent of mixing. Our results show that changes in the pH and metal ion concentration do not affect SF in the alkaline Cuyahoga-Erie sy:;tem. The effect of temperature is small and correctable. Model predictions suggest that photobleaching of DOM SF can limit the use of this method to short periods (3-7 d, depending on conditions). SF spectra are sensitive enough to detect 1% river water mixed in

Synchronous fluorescence spectra of dissolved organic matter (DOM) of algal origin in marine coastal waters
Naturally occurring dissolved organic matter [DOM) was investigated in a lagoonal system with the aim to study the origin and mixing of the Doh4 components. Water samples were collected in the Sacca di Goro lagoon (PO river delta, Italy) and analysed by means of different techniques, such as fluorescence, absorpt~on and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) measurements. Synchronous fluorescence spect...

Measurements of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), UV–visible, fixed wavelength fluorescence, and synchronous fluorescence were performed in an effort to characterize spatial and temporal variability in concentration and source of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in surface waters of the southwest coast of Florida. Concentrations of DOC in the surface water ranged from 318 to 2043 AM and decreased f...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal Distribution, Sources, and Photobleaching Imprint of Dissolved Organic Matter in the Yangtze Estuary and Its Adjacent Sea Using Fluorescence and Parallel Factor Analysis
To investigate the seasonal and interannual dynamics of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the Yangtze Estuary, surface and bottom water samples in the Yangtze Estuary and its adjacent sea were collected and characterized using fluorescence excitation-emission matrices (EEMs) and parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) in both dry and wet seasons in 2012 and 2013. Two protein-like components and thre...
متن کاملStudies of Interaction between Propranolol and Human Serum Albumin in the Presence of DMMP by Molecular Spectroscopy and Molecular Dynamics Simulation
The interaction between propranolol (PROP) and human serum albumin (HSA) was studied in the presence of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP). DMMP is usually considered as a simulant for chemical warfare agents (CWAs). For this purpose fluorescence quenching, resonance light scattering (RLS), synchronous, three-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation were emplo...
متن کاملFluorescence characteristics and sources of dissolved organic matter for stream water during storm events in a forested mid‐Atlantic watershed
[1] The concentrations and quality of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and their sources were studied for multiple storm events collected over a three‐year period (2008–10) in a forested headwater (12 ha) catchment in the mid‐Atlantic Piedmont region of the USA. DOM constituents were characterized using a suite of indices derived from ultraviolet absorbance and PARAFAC modeling of fluorescence ex...
